Some highlights from Brad's talk on Chiron:
Brad provided several handouts including a list of keywords, the Chiron discovery natal chart, the Saturn return chart of Chiron’s discovery, and some sample individual charts.
Chiron natal chart data: Nov 1, 1977 10:00 am PST, 34N09, 118Wo9, Pasadena, CA – Placidus
Chiron natal chart Saturn return: Aug 26, 2007 12:10 pm EST, Woodlawn, MD 39N19.22 76W43.42 Placidus

I just realized that every April 15, my Sun is opposite my natal Chiron in the 8th house, but what sustains me is that I love this subject.

My objective tonight is to look again at Chiron because it is coming up on its first Saturn return in August of this year (August 26, 2007).

Eris is at bottom of Chiron discovery chart. The story of Eris – she is the goddess that rules chaos. She’s close to my heart because I’m big on the goddess of Necessity – who represents form. They didn’t invite Eris to the party because they didn’t want any chaos. Out of spite, she formed a golden apple and threw it into the crowd. Venus and Hera got into a fight over who should have the apple. The 4th cusp can be either mother or father. Chiron did know his father but didn’t know his mom – she became a tree. Most of the story’s are genesis stories. Eris is the foundation of Chiron’s expression.

The Saturn return is coming up. It is a new cycle in our consciousness (Chiron was discovered on Nov 1, 1977). Look at the discovery chart in relationship to the natal chart and see what’s coming up.

Some examples of Chiron at work were given from charts of John Edwards, Deepak Chopra, Prince William, and Joan Didion. For example, Joan Didion, who currently has a hit play on Broadway – the Year of Magical Thinking, has moon in Chiron. She lost her husband and then a year later lost her daughter.

Chiron is involved in all of this. It’s a useful tool. You probably know the rule of three indicators before you call an event. Chiron is another tool for your toolbox. Chiron is now classified as a comet. What’s a comet? Water and dust – that’s earth. Scorpio is rising in the discovery chart.

Chiron is a highly significant representation of the evolution of astrology. The ancient forms, the archetypes are being refined and focused as befitting the changes we see in humanity. The great goddess Necessity to whom all gods and goddesses, even the fates and furies bow, says that all that is needed is provided. She maintains balance for the continuity of Life, which Joseph Campbell described as “eternity in love with the forms of time”. What we call death is also of her power that sustains the circle of returning and coming of all things. She is the essential form of creator to which all others are symbol and reference. What is not of her is the mystery and that is what we attribute to spirit. Chiron is her disciple of wisdom and her universal child; always old and young. His bond with necessity is what sustains him, and his story which is every man and every woman’s story in essence. What image in astrology is more accessible to us? Chiron represents the image of the life well-lived.
